And The Winner Is...!

I wasn't going to post again today, but I did want to share this one bit. Before we left on our trip, I entered one of my pieces in a contest on the EBSQART website. The category was "Motion", and the artwork entered had to describe the word. A little over 120 pieces were entered, and my tile "River Dance" won first place in the Patron's Choice category (along with another artist's piece). I was very tickled, believe me, because I don't consider myself an artist in the very least, I entered it more on a whim than for any other reason. No one was as surprised as I was to find out I won (it was announced while I was in Vegas). My mom even sent me a sweet congratulations card, and I got many emails from friends and family who went to the website to see my tile with a cute little blue ribbon icon beside it. So, for anyone reading this who voted for me, I appreciate it a great deal. It just makes me sad that I am not working on my pottery these days. And for anyone who is reading this that lives on the south side of Atlanta and who holds pottery classes/rents out their kiln, please contact me, I'm desperate to find a studio to start working again!!! Thanks for looking!

  1. Congratulations, Sandy!!! As an owner of several of your pottery pieces, I really hope you have the opportunity to do more soon! Have you ever considered investing in your own kiln? I know they're expensive but you're so skilled and seem to enjoy hand building, it might be worth thinking about.

  2. My husband has offered to buy me one, and I have been oh so tempted. I look at them online all the time. It was one of the reasons we bought a house with a basement, so I could eventually have a kiln and a room dedicated to my pottery. I was selling my tiles as fast as I could list them on eBay. Problem is, I don't know how to use a kiln, I always had someone else (a master potter) fire my pieces for me. I guess if you walk into a store and want to give them $1000+ for a kiln, they will probably throw in a few lessons??

  3. I would think they would be more than happy to train you in how to use it! When someone spends that kind of money the seller wants to make sure they're satisfied. Pottery is so hot right now - I love the pieces I purchased from you. We live down the road from Moravian Pottery and Tile Works. Have you ever heard of it? I purchased a tile necklace for my neice on Etsy and the seller (from NY) did her internship there 20 years ago. I keep telling Jim we're going there the next rainy day he's home. When I do, I'll take some photos and put them on my blog.

  4. I'd never heard of them, but after reading your note I looked them up online. Wow, gorgeous stuff! Very unique, very beautiful. I too collect handmade pottery, and in SC I used to live near the potter town of Seagrove, I have great pieces I picked up there over the years. Of course there is a lot of great pottery here in the states along the Blue Ridge Mountains- I could go broke in Asheville alone!! I love pottery!! Well, I only live about a half hour away from Atlanta, I guess it is time to do some hardcore research on finding a pottery supply store in the area. Fortunately I have a very indulgent husband, he would give me the moon and stars if I asked. (He said those exact words to me in a love letter when we were dating!!) I suppose getting me a kiln is a lot less of a hassle! And thanks for the black kitty paintings, can't wait to get them.
